Assemblyman Matt Simpson (R,C,I-Horicon) joined a bipartisan coalition of lawmakers to get A.7735a, a bill focused on eliminating invasive aquatic species, passed. The legislation allows for the inspection of boats at designated checkpoints for certain aquatic invasive species and increases education on their harmful nature. In the Adirondacks, the most harmful and prevalent invasive species are Eurasian watermilfoil, curly leaf pondweed, zebra mussel and Asian clam. This legislation will preserve the waterways of the Adirondack Park and continue to make the area the envy of those around the country.

“I made a commitment to be a steward of our waterways. I will continue to uphold that commitment in Albany so the next generation to call the Adirondacks home can co-exist with our beautiful waterways. The passage of this legislation was a major step forward to make sure our pristine Adirondack waterways remain the standard to which all others are measured, not just throughout New York state but the entire country.

“As we celebrate this legislative victory, I remain very aware that our work to combat invasive species is just beginning. I will continue to partner with local governments and municipalities throughout the region to combat evolving threats in our waterways,” said Simpson.
