2026 Legislative Accomplishments: Delivering Results for New Yorkers
Albany, NY — Assemblywoman Michaelle C. Solages announced the successful passage of 17 bills during the 2026 Legislative Session, along with three major policy initiatives included in the state budget.
The legislation addresses housing affordability, consumer protection, public health, transportation, education, government accountability, infrastructure, and local government efficiency.
“As your Assemblywoman, I am committed to ensuring that our policies improve both everyday life for working families while also protecting consumers. I pass legislation in the hopes of expanding opportunity and strengthening our communities.” said Assemblywoman Solages. “This past session, we advanced legislation to help make New York fairer, safer, and more affordable for the people who call it home.”
Many of the bills passed by the Legislature are now awaiting action by Governor Kathy Hochul before becoming law.
The Assemblywoman achieved these legislative wins in addition to a number of major achievements for her district, including her role in realizing Elmont’s forthcoming community center as well as $10 million dollars in Downtown Revitalization Funding for Valley Stream.
Among the major bills advocated for by the Assemblywoman this session are measures to protect consumers and families, including the One Fair Price Act, which prohibits businesses from using personal data to set individualized prices, and the Fair and Transparent Real Estate Listings Act, which expands public access to housing opportunities by requiring publicly marketed homes to be made available through public listing channels.
She also advanced public health and safety legislation, including the Healthy Homes Right to Know Act, which requires warning labels on gas stoves to inform consumers about indoor air pollution risks, and the Baby Monitor Cybersecurity Protection Act, which strengthens safeguards for internet-connected baby monitors.
To help lower costs and protect homeowners, Assemblywoman Solages supported the permanent strengthening of the Home Ownership Protection Program, which helps families avoid foreclosure, prevent deed theft, and stay in their homes.
She also advanced Utility Shutoff Protections During Extreme Weather, legislation that prevents utility shutoffs during periods of dangerous heat and cold.
“New Yorkers should not have to choose between paying a bill and keeping their families safe during extreme weather,” said the Assemblywoman. “These protections are about basic safety and common sense.”
The 2026 legislative package also includes bills focused on strengthening government accountability and transparency such as a bill which ensures that courts cannot deny class action certification solely because a government agency is involved, and another which requires greater transparency around emergency and exempted state contracts.
“Good governance means complete honesty and transparency about how taxpayer money is being spent as well as accountability for those awarded positions of power,” said Assemblywoman Solages. “This way, we can remain sure that state agencies and government entities are making decisions that serve the common interests of those who give them their authority: New York State residents.”
For local governments and infrastructure, Assemblywoman Solages advanced reforms to improve efficiency and reduce costs. These include the Long Island Rail Road Commuter Council Reform Act, which helps fill vacancies more quickly and strengthens commuter representation, as well as Water Infrastructure Financing Extensions that reduce administrative burdens for municipalities financing clean water and wastewater projects. The Shared Purchasing Extension allows local governments and school districts to continue sharing purchasing contracts, saving taxpayer dollars and improving efficiency.
Assemblywoman Solages also continued her work to protect young people by advancing legislation strengthening enforcement against illegal flavored vapes.
The bill targets manufacturers and distributors that supply illegal flavored vape products while updating the vapor product tax structure to better reflect modern high-capacity disposable devices.
“Whether we are talking about housing, consumer protection, public health, or protecting young people, the goal is always the same: to do everything I can to make sure that government works for the people it's supposed to serve,” said Assemblywoman Solages. “I am proud of what we accomplished and I remain committed to fighting for policies that benefit the millions of New Yorkers who make this state a place unlike anywhere else.”
This session, the Assemblywoman helped advance legislation that expands housing opportunity, protects homeowners, strengthens consumer protections, supports students and working families, protects public health and safety, improves government transparency, invests in local communities, and strengthens infrastructure across New York State.
